Carthage is the county seat for Jasper County. If you click the picture at left you can see an enlarged view of the courthouse at night. Carthage is the site of a civil war battle and boasts a civil war museum.

The Precious Mements Chapel was built by Samuel Butcher. He is also the designer of the Precious Moments collectible figurines. The chapel is a work of art that visitors from all over the world come to see.
